At 12:30 a.m. on June 13, 2025, more than 250 officers from various agencies conducted an immigration raid at Bang Yai Central Market in Saothonghin Subdistrict, Bang Yai District, Nonthaburi Province.
The market, which operates from 10:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m., hosts over 500 stalls and employs a large number of migrant workers from Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Myanmar. Authorities screened and verified the documents of more than 400 foreign workers. Additionally, they found four electronic claw machines placed within the market.
Mr. Kriatsak stated that illegal foreign labor negatively impacts the local economy and society. Therefore, an integrated approach among agencies is necessary, especially in high-risk areas like Bang Yai Market. The inspection identified about 20 clear cases of illegal workers—a relatively small number, reflecting good cooperation from local businesses who avoid hiring undocumented workers.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Kittithanet Thanantaveesin, Commander of Nonthaburi Provincial Police, added that this operation is part of a broader provincial plan, not limited to Bang Yai Market. Authorities are deploying forces to risk-prone areas such as fresh markets and construction camps. Preliminary results from Bang Yai Market revealed that only 5% of the inspected workers were found violating immigration laws, a relatively low rate.
Among the 20 illegal migrants detained, there were 1 Vietnamese, 4 Laotians, and 15 Burmese nationals. All were handed over to investigators at Bang Yai Police Station for legal proceedings before being transferred to the Nonthaburi Immigration Office for deportation.
