On June 10, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announced that the Cabinet has approved the allocation of 1,418.01 million baht from the central budget's emergency reserve fund for fiscal year 2025. This budget will be used by the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) to implement electricity cost reduction measures for citizens, as proposed by the Ministry of Interior.

The funding covers electricity bills from October to December 2024, with MEA receiving 222.96 million baht and PEA receiving 1,195.05 million baht. Both authorities will withdraw funds directly from the Budget Bureau.

The spokesperson explained that due to continuously rising energy prices affecting the country's energy costs, this measure aims to alleviate the burden on citizens' living expenses and support the country's economic recovery. The relief program targets residential electricity users consuming no more than 300 units per month, following the Cabinet resolution from July 23, 2024, covering electricity bills for October through December 2024.
