On June 9, the Phnom Penh Post reported that Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen posted on Facebook to reassure Cambodian citizens concerned about the potential loss of territory.
"The realignment of military forces in conflict-prone areas through mutual understanding between Cambodian and Thai military commanders is crucial and necessary to prevent a broader and more violent clash. Citizens of both Cambodia and Thailand desire genuine and lasting peace, not war," Hun Sen stated.
The former Cambodian leader added that peaceful conflict resolution efforts through negotiations have been carried out at all levels—from government to frontline military commanders—and tangible results are now emerging.
"I urge all citizens to have confidence in the government's commitment to resolving conflicts through peaceful means, which is the only way to prevent bloodshed, build friendship, and foster effective cooperation with our neighboring countries," Hun Sen affirmed.
On June 8, the Cambodian and Thai militaries met and agreed to reposition troops in appropriate areas to reduce tensions and avoid confrontations along the border. This move aims to ease the situation following a brief skirmish on May 28, which resulted in the death of one Cambodian soldier.
