Following the discovery of 12 million baht in cash hidden in a plastic container and dumped at a garbage area near the elevator on the 4th floor of Building P2, Muang Thong Thani condo on June 6, Mr. Taweewat Saengkaew came forward claiming to be the owner.

On June 9, Bangkok MP Rukchanok Srinork from the People's Party posted on social media, raising questions about the credibility of Mr. Taweewat’s claim and his significant roles in Thailand’s telecom regulator, the NBTC.

Key details she shared included:

  • Mr. Taweewat serves as an advisor to NBTC board member Torpong Selanon and has sat on several key NBTC subcommittees.
  • He voted that the NBTC had no authority to block the controversial True-DTAC merger—contrary to others in the committee.
  • He was involved in committees managing billions in telecom-related public funds, such as the World Cup broadcasting deal and the USO and BCP funds, which have long faced criticism for lack of transparency and potential cronyism.
  • Torpong, who appointed Mr. Taweewat, is linked to past corporate advisory roles with CP Group and backed the NBTC’s claim of limited regulatory power in the True-DTAC case.

Rukchanok emphasized that while she wasn’t asserting definitive conclusions, the public should think critically about how someone like Mr. Taweewat could accumulate 12 million baht in cash.

She and fellow MPs—Phanida Mongkolsawat and Pukkamon Nunarnan—announced plans to:

  1. Submit a request to the Revenue Department to probe Mr. Taweewat’s and his associates’ financial trails.
  2. Ask the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to investigate if Mr. Taweewat’s spouse declared assets properly or exhibited unusual wealth.
  3. File a petition to the NBTC itself, despite skepticism about any effective outcome due to alleged internal collusion.

She concluded by framing this issue not as a joke, but a serious symptom of systemic rot within the NBTC and a legacy of corruption from prior governments, calling for accountability and justice for those abusing national interests.
