On May 30, Mahasarakham University (MSU) issued a public statement via its official Facebook page addressing the unauthorized use of its name by a fake account called “Freshmen MSU 69.” The university stated that the page disseminated distorted information, including claims that students had contracted sexually transmitted diseases and insinuations of a severe outbreak—causing potential public misunderstanding.

MSU emphasized that it immediately launched a thorough investigation upon detecting the misleading content. It clarified that the “Freshmen MSU 69” page is run by individuals unaffiliated with the university.

The university has filed a police report for impersonation and for spreading false information online—an offense under Thailand’s Computer Crime Act B.E. 2560. It vowed to pursue legal action to the fullest extent to protect its reputation and prevent recurrence.

Associate Professor Dr. Nittaya Wannakit, Vice President for Student Development and Corporate Image, reaffirmed the university's commitment to student health and rights. She noted that MSU provides robust support systems and counseling services, and will not tolerate misuse of its name in ways that could harm students, staff, or the institution.

MSU reiterated its dedication to maintaining a safe, equitable educational environment that respects the dignity of all students. The university urged the public to rely solely on official communication channels and to exercise discretion when consuming and sharing content on social media.
