On May 28 at 1:15 PM, the House of Representatives convened with Deputy Speaker Pichet Chuamuangphan presiding, to deliberate the draft bill amending the Crown Property Act. The bill, presented by Minister Chusak Sirinil, proposes renaming the Crown Property Bureau to “Office of the Privy Purse” and transferring specific royal property management functions from the Bureau of the Royal Household to the newly named office. This renaming aims to reflect the historical term and royal tradition of “Phra Khlang Khang Thi.”

MP Natthaphong Rueangpanyawut of the People’s Party voiced concern about the rush to approve the bill, though he accepted its content, which he described as limited to a name change without altering the substance of property management already changed by the 2018 NCPO-era law. He stressed that due diligence must be applied when handling laws related to the monarchy to avoid public suspicion.

Chuti Krairiksh, MP from the United Thai Nation Party, supported the bill, emphasizing the monarchy's role in supporting public welfare, especially in emergencies, through personal royal assets. He cited COVID-19 mobile testing units and healthcare funding as examples.

Dr. Cholnan Srikaew from Pheu Thai Party confirmed the bill only includes six clauses, with the essence limited to three, reaffirming the process complies with the constitution and calling for a full-house committee for expedited review. Despite debate over procedure under House Rule 120, the House voted overwhelmingly in favor.

The session concluded with 454 votes in favor and 2 abstentions, approving the bill in its second and third readings.
