Mr. Montri Dechasakulsom, Director-General of the Department of Rural Roads, revealed that the Department has completed the expansion project of Chaiyapruek Road in Nonthaburi Province, and it is now open for public use. Previously, Chaiyapruek Road had six lanes and carried traffic of over 40,000 vehicles per day, leading to heavy congestion with a growing trend. The opening of Ratchaphruek–Kanchanaphisek Road (North-South route) has further increased traffic volume by improving connectivity to Pathum Thani, making Chaiyapruek Road a more attractive route.
Mr. Montri stated that with the road now fully operational, it will not only support the long-term transportation infrastructure development strategy as per the policy of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, but also help reduce congestion, ease outbound traffic during rush hours, and accommodate increasing future traffic. This enhances Chaiyapruek Road’s efficiency and sustainable use.
Additionally, Mr. Montri detailed that the expansion project involved upgrading at-grade parallel roads to two lanes in each direction from the Rama IV Bridge approach to the Ratchaphruek interchange. The road surface was also widened by one lane in each direction from the Ratchaphruek interchange to Bang Kruai–Sai Noi Road, totaling 6.892 kilometers. The project also included the construction of four bridges over Phra Udom and Bang Phumi canals, footpaths, drainage systems, and street lighting. The total budget was 902 million baht.
