On May 23, 2025, the Nonthaburi Provincial Court delivered its verdict in the case of Tangmo Nida Patcharaveerapong, a famous Thai actress who died after falling off a boat in 2022.
Four defendants appeared in court: Kritsarin “Kratic” Juthasuksawat, Wisapat “Sand” Manomairat, Nithat “Job” Keeratisutthasorn, and Theerathirasee “Pheem” Thammateerasri, who were charged with recklessness causing death.
Robert Paiboon and Poh Tanupat had previously pleaded guilty and were sentenced:
- Poh: Initially 5 years 8 months, reduced to 2 years 9 months with a fine of 64,000 baht, sentence suspended for 3 years.
- Robert: Initially 4 years 4 months, reduced to 2 years 2 months with a 54,000 baht fine, also suspended for 3 years.
The court began the session at 9:30 AM and later acquitted Sand, Kratic, and Pheem, stating there were no eyewitnesses on the boat. The court accepted the argument that Tangmo moved to the stern of the boat on her own and fell, which was considered her own risk and fault. Sand reportedly attempted to help her, but the current was too strong.
Job was fined 16,000 baht and sentenced to 4 months for filing a false report, plus 2 months and an 8,000 baht fine for disposing waste in a river. His sentence was suspended for one year.
Lawyer Decha explained that since Thai law only imposes legal responsibility on the boat driver—not other passengers—the defendants on the boat were not held liable for neglect.
Tangmo’s mother disagreed with the verdict and plans to consult with the prosecutor and appeal the case within the 1-month deadline. She still believes someone on the boat was responsible for her daughter’s death.
