On May 21, Chaiyawat Junthirapong, Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, revealed that a special task force had raided a large illegal gambling den in Ban Khao Tor, Plai Phraya District, Krabi Province. The operation uncovered over 100 gamblers hidden within a palm plantation beside the main Krabi–Phang Nga highway.

This crackdown was initiated following directives from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, who ordered Anusit Samphantharat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, to intensify efforts against illegal gambling. The Department of Provincial Administration, led by Deputy Director-General Ronarong Thipsiri and key investigative officers, launched Operation “Bong La Fai” in response to public tips about concealed gambling activities.

The raid resulted in the arrest of numerous gamblers and the seizure of gambling equipment. Initial findings indicate a circulation of more than 12 million baht per month through the gambling ring.

Deputy Director-General Ronarong stated that this particular den had been previously surveilled and was known for hiding its operations under the cover of dense palm groves. Although previously shut down following viral videos shared online, it had resumed activities shortly after. Authorities believe the operation was backed by influential figures but emphasized that no one is above the law.

Ronarong reaffirmed the Ministry of Interior’s policy to suppress influential criminal networks undermining social order. Citizens are encouraged to report any illegal activity through local Damrongdhama Centers or the Ministry of Interior hotline 1567, available 24/7.
