On May 19 at Wat Bang Na Nai in Bang Na District, Bangkok, leaders of the National United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) held a merit-making ceremony to commemorate those who died during the violent crackdown on Red Shirt protesters on May 19, 2010.

The ceremony was led by Mr. Nuttawut Saikua, advisor to the Prime Minister, Mr. Pipatchai Paiboon, former Pheu Thai Party MP candidate for Bangkok, and Mr. Kaweewong Yuwichit, member of the Deputy Prime Minister's advisory team. They were joined by relatives of the deceased and many Red Shirt supporters who participated in offering alms and meals to 50 Buddhist monks.

Justice Updates: Mr. Nuttawut addressed the gathering, stating that efforts to restore justice for Red Shirt victims continue across all fronts. He highlighted the ongoing push for amendments to the Prevention and Suppression of Corruption Act, which would open legal channels for victims' families to file lawsuits in court. The proposed amendments are expected to be considered by Parliament in the next session.

Regarding the investigation into the deaths of protesters that remain unresolved, Mr. Nuttawut reported that the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has already forwarded the matter to the Metropolitan Police Bureau for further action.

The ceremony served as both a remembrance of those lost during the 2010 political violence and a reaffirmation of ongoing efforts to seek accountability and justice for the victims and their families.
