Madam Pang, Nualphan Lamsam, President of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT), provided an update on the ongoing negotiations for the Thai League broadcast rights. Although the bidding began in February, no final agreement has been reached as of May, with the 2025/26 season set to kick off in August. She stated that discussions have been positive but emphasized that the four-year contract (covering 2025/26 to 2028/29) requires thorough consideration, which is normal. Several negotiation rounds have been held and are progressing well, and she remains confident that good news will be announced soon.
She reassured that clubs in all three leagues will receive a minimum amount of financial support, at least equal to the 2024/25 season. Despite FAT facing a severe financial crisis and debt, particularly due to a legal loss to Siam Sport Syndicate from the previous administration, she asked for continued trust and support. She affirmed her commitment to managing both the association and the Thai League effectively.
Additionally, Madam Pang confirmed that support payments to clubs in all three leagues were completed on May 9, totaling 280 million baht. Thai League 1 clubs received 10 million baht each, Thai League 2 clubs got 3 million baht each, and Thai League 3 clubs were given 1 million baht each—demonstrating FAT's continued dedication to supporting clubs amid current economic challenges.
Looking back, Thai football broadcast rights initially started with TrueVisions paying 200 million baht per year from 2011–2013. This increased to 600 million baht per year during 2014–2016, and peaked at 1.05 billion baht per year from 2017–2020. However, the landscape changed after a failed 12-billion-baht, 8-year deal with Zense Entertainment in 2020, which collapsed before implementation due to financial guarantees not being met.
Subsequently, AIS acquired the rights for 800 million baht in 2021–22, followed by a significant drop to 300 million baht in 2022–23. In 2023–24, the auction value plummeted to just 50 million baht, prompting clubs like Buriram United, BG Pathum United, and Port FC to self-fund their own broadcasts.
In the current 2024–25 season, under Madam Pang’s leadership, the rights were sold again to TrueVisions, reportedly for 190 million baht.
