On December 30, Ms. Traisulee Traisoranakul, spokesperson and secretary to the Minister of Interior, reported that Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has ordered a thorough investigation into the recent fire at a hotel on Tanee Road, Bangkok. The incident, which resulted in fatalities, has raised concerns about its impact on tourism, particularly due to the hotel’s proximity to popular landmarks like Khao San Road, a well-known destination for both Thai and international tourists. Mr. Anutin emphasized the need for Bangkok authorities and relevant agencies to act swiftly, ensuring legal measures are enforced rigorously.

In addition to addressing this specific case, Mr. Anutin has instructed provincial governors nationwide to collaborate with local agencies to enhance safety inspections of hotels, tourist accommodations, entertainment venues, and other public spaces. These efforts are especially critical during the New Year holiday season, which sees large gatherings of domestic and international tourists. Inspections will focus on building safety, including structural integrity, fire prevention systems, evacuation routes, and emergency preparedness to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Ms. Traisulee reiterated that the investigation must determine whether the fire was an accident, a result of negligence, or a failure to comply with safety standards. Authorities have been directed to enforce the law strictly, holding accountable any parties found responsible for violating safety regulations. The goal is to reinforce public confidence in Thailand’s commitment to safety and demonstrate the government’s firm stance on upholding legal standards in protecting lives and property.
