On the night of December 28, 2024, Air Canada flight 2259, operated by PAL Airlines, experienced a harrowing landing incident at Halifax Stanfield International Airport, Canada. The small aircraft skidded off the runway, resulting in a fire that caused damage to the aircraft and part of the runway.

The airport’s statement confirmed the incident occurred at approximately 9:30 PM local time. All passengers and crew were safely evacuated and taken to a hangar for medical evaluation. The total number of people on board was not disclosed.

Passenger Nikki Valentine recounted the tense moments, stating that one of the plane’s tires failed to deploy during landing. The aircraft tilted approximately 20 degrees to the left, producing loud noises resembling an impact. The wing scraped along the runway, and the plane skidded a considerable distance before stopping. Smoke and flames were visible near the left side of the aircraft.

The evacuation process took over two minutes, as passengers exited in an orderly but urgent manner. Nikki noted that the plane had around 80 seats, with most occupied, and described the scene as tense but well-managed. Emergency crews swiftly addressed the fire, ensuring everyone’s safety.

Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the landing gear failure.
