A South Korean commercial airplane crashed while landing at Muan International Airport on Jeju Island, southwest South Korea, on Sunday morning, December 29, 2024. According to local fire officials, the plane carried a total of 181 people, including 175 passengers and six crew members. The accident occurred at approximately 9:00 AM local time due to a malfunction in the landing gear, causing the aircraft to skid off the runway.

South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency reported that at least 28 passengers were confirmed dead, with one survivor found as rescue operations continue. The plane, operated by Jeju Airlines, was en route from Suvarnabhumi Airport in Thailand to Jeju Island when the incident occurred.

Rescue efforts are ongoing as authorities work to assess the full extent of the casualties and support survivors.
