On December 24, the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) reported that a state official from a provincial revenue office was found guilty of embezzling 4,424,552.01 baht. The individual misappropriated government revenue for personal gain and falsified documents to cover up the crime, causing significant financial harm to the Revenue Department.

The PACC determined during its February 24, 2022, meeting that the actions constituted criminal offenses under the Thai Penal Code (Sections 147, 157, 161, and 91) and severe disciplinary violations under the Civil Service Act, Section 85(1).

On March 27, 2024, the Region 4 Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases sentenced the accused to 246 years and 738 months of imprisonment after finding them guilty on 123 counts. Due to the Penal Code’s sentencing limits, the term was reduced to 50 years. The court also ordered the defendant to repay 2,214,253.61 baht to the Revenue Department.

Prosecutors and the PACC reviewed the ruling on July 31, 2024, and agreed not to appeal, deeming the sentence appropriate.
