The issue arose after a popular film club announced it would cease movie screenings, citing various challenges, including restrictive laws under the Film Act and ministerial regulations governing venue construction and operation. The club called for amendments to these outdated laws, which impose uniform criteria on all cinema and entertainment venues.

In response, the Subcommittee on Film, under the National Soft Power Development Committee, stated they have been in discussions with affected parties and are prioritizing these concerns in the draft of a new Film Act. Additionally, meetings with relevant government agencies, including the Department of Cultural Promotion and the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning, have been scheduled for December 25, 2024, to address legal obstacles under current ministerial regulations.

The Ministry of Culture has already coordinated with its advisors and the Director-General of the Department of Cultural Promotion. The committee emphasized their commitment to resolving this issue both urgently and in the long term, ensuring such incidents do not occur in the future.
