On December 14, 2024, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) spokesperson Ekawanyu Amrapal reported an incident involving falling debris caused by a crane malfunction at the Sri Fuengfung Building on Rama IV Road in Silom, Bang Rak district. The 11-story building with a basement had been undergoing demolition since receiving a demolition permit (A.1 Form No. 104/2567) on June 24, 2024.
The incident occurred around 4:00 PM during the removal of the building’s sixth floor. While cutting and lowering sections of the structure using a crane, an electrical explosion in the crane operator’s cabin caused a cable failure, leading to a piece of the building falling onto Rama IV Road.
In response, the Bang Rak District Office issued an immediate suspension of demolition activities. A formal inspection by the BMA, led by Deputy Governor Wisanu Subsompol, the Department of Public Works, and the Engineering Institute of Thailand, is scheduled for 10:00 AM on December 15, 2024.
