On December 12, 2024, 20 MPs aligned with Capt. Thamanat Prompow, MP for Phayao, were officially expelled from the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) following a party meeting. The expulsion, led by MP Attakorn Sirilatthayakorn of Chachoengsao, was based on party regulation 54(5), which cited ideological differences without any allegations of serious ethical or disciplinary violations.

The group, now unaffiliated, is considering its next political move. Attakorn stated that their 20 votes could play a significant role in supporting Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s government. By law, the MPs have 30 days to join a new political party, with speculation surrounding the possibility of joining the Kla Tham Party, led by Agriculture Minister Narumon Pinyosinwat.

Attakorn clarified that no decision has been made about forming or joining a new party but acknowledged familiarity with Narumon due to previous collaborations. The group emphasized their continued respect for PPRP leader Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, despite their departure, and wished the party well in its endeavors.

Capt. Thamanat urged the group to remain united and focus on minimizing disruptions to the public while contributing to national progress.
