On December 3, 2024, Uthai Thani Governor Theerapat Khatchamat and local officials announced the Huai Kha Khaeng Heritage Day 2024 and the Ban Rai District Festival at a press conference. The events, held from December 1–9, 2024, at Ban Rai District Office and the Ban Rai Subdistrict Municipality Sports Field, celebrate the Huai Kha Khaeng-Thung Yai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary's designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on December 13, 1991. The festival aims to raise awareness about environmental conservation, promote tourism, and boost the local economy.
Visitors are invited to enjoy the Flower Festival at Kaen Makrut, featuring winter blooms and scenic mountain landscapes, beginning December 5. Highlights of the Heritage Day celebrations include:
- A parade competition promoting environmental and cultural conservation (21 parades).
- The Ban Rai District Festival showcasing local products and traditions.
- The Huai Kha Khaeng Marathon 2024, promoting health and anti-drug awareness.
- Academic and creative competitions for students.
- Exhibitions on the wildlife sanctuary's ecology and sustainable natural resource management.
- Educational activities for youth, including a "living library" inspired by conservationist Seub Nakhasathien.
The events are supported by government agencies, private organizations, and community members, reflecting a collaborative effort to honor and protect Thailand's natural heritage while driving tourism and economic growth in Uthai Thani.
