At 12:20 AM on November 30, Myanmar naval patrol boats armed with weapons approached three Thai fishing boats operating near Koh Phayam, 12 nautical miles inside Thai waters. The Myanmar vessels fired at the fishing boats and attempted to seize them, prompting the Thai crews to cut nets and flee.
One of the Thai boats, Duang Thaweepol 333, was hit, forcing its crew to abandon ship. Three crew members went missing, but later in the morning, they were found. Tragically, one crew member, Warakorn Jusiriphongkul, 24, was found dead. The damaged boat was towed back to Kuraburi District in Phang Nga Province. Another boat, Mahalap Thanawat 4, sustained injuries to two crew members, one from a gunshot grazing his head and another from an electric shock. Both were treated at Ranong Hospital.
The third vessel, Sor Charoenchai 8, and its 31 crew members (4 Thais and 27 Myanmar nationals) were seized by the Myanmar patrol and taken to Yangon Kyuak Island in Myanmar's Kawthaung Province.
Thai authorities, including the Thai-Myanmar Maritime Coordination Center, have lodged a formal protest and are coordinating with local border committees to secure the release of the captured crew and vessel. Officials, including Ranong District Chief Sombat Sithikan, visited injured crew members at Ranong Hospital to provide support and gather further information about the incident.
