Bangchak Corporation is advancing studies on investing in small modular reactors (SMRs), as announced by CEO Chaiwat Kovavisarach during the 14th Greenovative Forum, marking Bangchak’s 40th anniversary. SMRs, capable of producing 200-300 MW, are considered suitable for Thailand due to their affordability, scalability, and ease of control in case of issues. The proposal, submitted to Energy Ministry Permanent Secretary Prasert Sinthusutprasert, has been incorporated into the draft Power Development Plan (PDP2024) for 2024-2080.

Bangchak is evaluating various investment approaches, including solo and joint ventures with public and private entities, aiming for optimal solutions. Specific investment figures have yet to be determined, with clarity expected soon. Any decisions will be managed through BCPG Public Company Limited, a subsidiary of Bangchak.

Additionally, Bangchak’s sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production unit, located at its Phra Khanong refinery, is under construction. Covering 8.9 rai with a capacity of 1 million tons per day, the facility is expected to commence operations in Q2 2025, with client commitments at 70-80%.
