On November 28, concerns intensified in Hat Yai as residents feared potential flooding due to continuous heavy rainfall. Upstream areas, such as Sadao District, have already experienced severe flooding, prompting many locals to stockpile food and dry goods. Monitoring efforts focused on the two main canals in Hat Yai: U-Tapao Canal and Phuminat Damri Canal (also known as R.1 Canal), which channels water into Songkhla Lake.
While water levels in both canals are rising, U-Tapao Canal remains under a green flag, indicating manageable conditions. However, parts of R.1 Canal, including Bang Faeb Village in Khuan Lang Subdistrict, have already raised yellow flags, signaling a heightened flood risk.
Hat Yai Municipality reported yellow-flag conditions in nine communities, including Hat Yai Nai, R.1 Canal, Sala Lung Thong, Talad Pho Phrom, Thesaphatthana, Chanpratheep, Chan Nivet, Rattanawiboon, and Chan Wirot communities. Additionally, six municipal schools and several others in the city have temporarily closed as a precaution.
