On November 27, continuous rainfall in Betong District, Yala Province, triggered a landslide as saturated mountain soil gave way. The incident caused a large tree behind the Betong Merlin Hotel to fall on high-voltage power lines, toppling six electricity poles. These poles obstructed traffic on Thammawithi Road, which leads to Betong Municipal Park and the parking area of the Betong City Plaza Hotel. The incident damaged vehicles belonging to locals and Malaysian tourists, and resulted in a power outage affecting entertainment venues and restaurants in Betong. Vendors lit candles to provide light for dining tourists during the outage.
Mr. Prasan Iadkhong, acting manager of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) in Betong, dispatched a team to address the situation. Power has been restored in most affected areas, including restaurants and businesses near the site, but Soi Fusak 3 and sections of Thammawithi Road remain without electricity. The road is also closed to traffic while crews work to replace poles and rewire power lines, a process expected to take 1-2 days to complete.
