On November 5, 2024, officers from the Khao Khitchakut Police Station received a report of a young wild elephant calf found electrocuted in an orchard within the Patcharasutha Conservation Village, Moo 9, Khlong Phlu Subdistrict, Khao Khitchakut District, Chanthaburi Province.

At the scene, authorities found the male wild elephant, approximately two years old and weighing about one ton, lying on its side in a durian orchard. The calf’s neck was entangled in multiple coils of electrical wire, with sections of the wire visibly damaged, exposing the copper inside.

Officials suspect that the elephant calf, possibly separated from its herd and curious, wandered into the area and encountered the power pole, knocking down several concrete poles. It then may have started tugging at the wires with its trunk, leading to the tragic accident. Evidence of elephant dung was found in abundance at the scene.
